 Non-electrical machinery products include: industrial machinery, machine tools, prime movers, agricultural machinery, general purpose machinery, steam boilers etc. 

There are about 490 large public and private companies in the country operating in this sector. Of these their recent annual reports show that nearly 20% - 102 companies – engage in R&D activities to a tune of Rs. 500 crores.  Many of these companies are in the tail end of the list and contribute only Rs. 1 lakh or there about to the R&D kitty.
