CABINET APPROVES GRANT FOR DRUG R&D

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given clearance for extending grants-in-aid to pharmaceutical companies for the development of new drugs for neglected diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, kala-azar and filariasis. This is a proposal under the Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Research Programme of the Department of Science and Technology, which has been implementing the programme since 1994-1995 to support institutional collaborative R&D projects and infrastructure development in the pharmaceutical sector. An amount of Rs45 crore has been granted for the programme during the 11th Plan period.
