CIPLA, RANBAXY AT BOTTOM IN TOP 20 PHARMA FIRMS' SURVEY

India's top pharmaceutical companies, Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd (Ranbaxy) and Cipla have been named among the top 20 international pharmaceutical companies. Ranbaxy stands at 17 and Cipla stands at 16 in the list. GlaxoSmithKline of UK tops the list. The companies were evaluated by Access to Medicine Index of Netherlands for 2008. The companies were analysed on performance in various parameters like medicine management, investment in research and development in neglected diseases, patents and licensing, best practices in manufacturing and distribution, pricing and public policy influence. Both Cipla and Ranbaxy underperformed in parameters like medicine management and best practices regarding licensing and patents.
